Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed that the demand for prompt local elections in Rajasthan is increasing as governance solely by officials is failing to address the daily concerns of people in urban and rural areas. Pilot emphasized the widening gap between administration and public needs, stating a widespread call for the swift restoration of elected representation.
Speaking in Tonk, his constituency, Pilot lamented the absence of student union elections in universities and municipal or Panchayat elections since the BJP government took office. He questioned the maintenance of democratic principles in such circumstances, urging for timely elections to elect representatives for corporations, councils, and Panchayats to address public needs effectively.
Pilot criticized the delay in elections despite a court deadline, attributing it to the BJP’s fear of unfavorable results. He highlighted the public’s collective will for elections and readiness to pursue legal action to ensure their occurrence. Pilot underscored the importance of grassroots democracy and the necessity of elected bodies in addressing civic and developmental issues promptly.
The Congress leader reiterated the party’s long-standing demand for timely elections, emphasizing the crucial role of local democratic institutions in ensuring accountability and responsive governance. He stressed that without elected representatives, citizens face limited avenues to address grievances, making it essential to hold elections promptly for effective governance and public welfare.
