A second FIR has been lodged in South 24 Parganas district’s Diamond Harbour against Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and others regarding the ‘Sebaashray’ health camp. This FIR, filed by the Bishnupur police station, is based on a complaint by local BJP leader Abhijit Das (Bobby) and includes Banerjee’s executive assistant Sumit Roy and Trinamool’s candidate Jahangir Khan.
Abhishek Banerjee initiated the Sebaashray project to provide free medical care to his constituents in Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, later extending it to other areas in the state. The police have received 16 complaints related to the ‘Sebaashray’ and ‘Sebaashray 2’ health camps, leading to the registration of this FIR under various legal sections.
The FIR lists Banerjee as the primary accused, alongside other individuals including Sumit Roy, Jahangir Khan, and former Trinamool MLA Dilip Mandal. Additionally, it names Ayan Ghosh Dastidar, Shamim Ahmed, Gautam Adhikari, and several organizations, along with unidentified organizers, doctors, health workers, and government employees.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the funding sources for these health camps. Jahangir Khan and Dilip Mandal have already been arrested in separate cases, while Banerjee’s role as the main organizer of the health camp is under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in planning, management, and execution.
The first FIR, filed on July 2 at Diamond Harbour police station, highlighted alleged violations during the health camp, including lack of permissions, improper use of medicines and equipment, and endangering public safety. Accusations of criminal conspiracy, unauthorized medical facilities, cheating, and fraud have been leveled against Banerjee and others.
