Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka has urged the Karnataka government, led by D.K. Shivakumar, to release a Financial White Paper on the state’s finances, following Kerala’s example. Ashoka emphasized the importance of transparency, citing Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan’s initiative to present a financial white paper to the public.
Ashoka pressed for a detailed financial white paper to be presented in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly promptly. He highlighted the need for clarity on the state’s debt burden, fiscal status, and past financial decisions that may impact future generations. The Leader of Opposition emphasized the public’s right to access accurate financial information for accountability and transparency.
Demanding transparency and accountability, Ashoka stressed the necessity for the government to disclose the true financial implications of previous administrations’ decisions. He called for immediate action to present a white paper in the Assembly to provide a clear view of the state’s financial standing. Ashoka reiterated the significance of informing the people about the actual costs associated with past fiscal policies.
The BJP leader previously accused the Congress government of plunging Karnataka into significant debt and halting developmental projects. He had also urged former CM Siddaramaiah to release a white paper to reveal the state’s financial health before budget presentations. Siddaramaiah, in response, defended his administration’s fiscal performance, highlighting Karnataka’s strong GST collections and growth rate exceeding the national average.
