Senior BJP leaders commended the significant voter turnout in the West Bengal and Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, viewing it as a strong signal of public discontent and a yearning for change. BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav emphasized that the record-breaking voting numbers in these states indicate a clear demand for a shift in governance. He stressed that voting is the democratic way to bring about change, reflecting the public’s determination for a transformation.
In response to the initial polling phase in West Bengal, BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh appreciated the Election Commission’s efforts in ensuring a successful and peaceful election process. He highlighted the voters’ preference for a non-violent voting environment, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles.
Sanjay Saraogi, BJP Bihar State President, echoed the sentiment of public dissatisfaction with the ruling party in West Bengal, noting the high voter turnout as a reflection of the anger towards Mamata Banerjee and the TMC. The public’s resentment was vividly expressed through their active participation in the electoral process.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo highlighted the remarkable voter turnout in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, with over 92% and 85% participation rates, respectively. He praised the Chief Election Commissioner for overseeing a peaceful first phase of voting in West Bengal, acknowledging the challenges faced and the dedication of security personnel in ensuring a secure electoral environment.
The Election Commission of India also acknowledged the unprecedented engagement of voters in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar lauded the record-breaking polling percentages in both states, recognizing the commitment and participation of every voter.
West Bengal witnessed a historic voter turnout of 92.6% in the first phase of its Assembly elections, setting a new record for initial phase participation in any state. The second phase of polling is scheduled for April 29, with vote counting set for May 4. In Tamil Nadu, voting took place across all 234 Assembly constituencies, with election results also slated for announcement on May 4.
