A senior postal official, Deshraj Meena, was arrested by the CBI for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from colleagues to prevent their transfer and approve their leave. The arrest took place at the Automated Mail Processing Centre in Mahipalpur.
The CBI initiated the case after complaints that the official demanded Rs 20,000 to halt the transfer and grant leave. Following negotiations, the accused settled for Rs 10,000 as an initial payment.
Previously, the CBI secured a four-year jail term for another ex-Post Office official in Odisha for soliciting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Radha Krushna Sahoo, a former Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices in Baripada, was convicted for demanding the bribe for facilitating a job opportunity.
