Shahi Chief Mufti of Uttar Pradesh, Maulana Chaudhary Ifraheem Husain, backed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent statement against offering ‘namaz’ on public roads, citing it as contrary to Islamic principles. He emphasized the need for organized religious gatherings in designated places to prevent overcrowding and disturbances.
Husain affirmed the correctness of CM Yogi’s stance, stating that Islamic teachings prohibit offering ‘namaz’ in disputed or public areas. He stressed that roads should be kept clear for commuters, including ambulances, and urged Muslims to refrain from praying in such locations.
Referring to a recent Allahabad High Court ruling, the religious leader highlighted that the judgment applies universally to all religions, emphasizing the importance of respecting public spaces. He also differentiated between ‘namaz’ and other religious functions held on roads, noting the peaceful nature of ‘namaz’ compared to processions like ‘Kanwar Yatra’.
In a similar vein, Uttarakhand Madarsa Education Board Chairman, Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, echoed support for CM Adityanath’s remarks, criticizing some Muslim representatives for misunderstanding Islamic teachings.
