Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, expressed concerns about the Congress party’s focus on alliances over organizational strength to secure election victories. She attributed repeated election losses to a lack of enthusiasm among leaders to strengthen the party. Mukherjee highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s inability to secure a decisive mandate for Congress despite being its prominent face.
In an interview, Mukherjee pointed out that since 2014, Congress has faced electoral setbacks under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. She emphasized the need for a stronger organizational structure within the party to achieve success independently. Mukherjee criticized the trend of relying on alliances rather than building internal party capabilities for electoral victories.
Discussing the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mukherjee refrained from making predictions but acknowledged Congress’ past performance. She noted that while some initiatives led by Rahul Gandhi showed promise, his intermittent engagement with party activities raised concerns. Mukherjee stressed the importance of consistent and dedicated political involvement for achieving success in elections.
