Shaurya Bhattacharya, a three-time winner on the PGTI Tour, took the lead in round one of the INR 1.5 crore PGTI Players Championship 2026 at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata. The 23-year-old golfer, fresh from a recent top-10 finish in Asia, shot a remarkable six-under 64 to claim the top spot on the leaderboard with two eagles.
Another player, Shaurya Sharma, not to be confused with Bhattacharya, and Manish Thakran, a previous winner on the PGTI NexGen, tied for second place with scores of 65. Bhattacharya’s impressive performance included two eagles and a birdie, showcasing his strong start in the tournament.
Reflecting on his round, Bhattacharya expressed satisfaction with his consistent play, particularly highlighting his accuracy off the tee. He drew confidence from his past successes and recent good form, emphasizing the importance of a solid start to the season with a top-10 finish in Malaysia.
Shaurya Sharma, who had a notable finish at the PGTI Qualifying School, and Manish Thakran also displayed strong performances with six birdies each. Among the local golfers, Mohammad Sanju from Kolkata secured a tied 15th position with a score of 68.
