The Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed concern over the recent hooch tragedy in Pune, where 16 people lost their lives due to consuming adulterated liquor. The party criticized the administrative and law enforcement systems, blaming them for the incident and calling it a result of corruption.
In an editorial in its publication, Saamana, the Shiv Sena accused Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of neglecting governance and misusing the Home Department for personal and political gains. The editorial highlighted a lack of police-public connection and alleged harassment of political opponents through fabricated cases.
The editorial demanded accountability from Fadnavis, who also serves as the Home Minister, for the tragic loss of lives. It pointed out the proliferation of illicit liquor trade in Pune and surrounding areas, attributing it to political patronage and police collusion. The party also raised concerns about the rise in violent crimes in the region.
The Shiv Sena criticized the Pune Police Commissioner’s recent restrictions on establishments, questioning their effectiveness in preventing such incidents. The editorial highlighted the brazen nature of the illegal liquor trade and called for a reevaluation of law enforcement strategies to tackle the issue effectively.
