The South Indian Film Producers Association has released a statement regarding the ongoing matter concerning the OTT window for films. The association, which includes various film producer councils and associations from South India, discussed the proposed OTT window mandates during a meeting in Hyderabad. They emphasized the need for fair play among producers, distributors, and exhibitors, rejecting unilateral decisions that affect the industry without proper consultation.
A Steering Committee, consisting of representatives from different language industry associations, has been formed to engage with stakeholders from various sectors regularly. The association highlighted concerns over recent embargoes in Tamil Nadu that demand an 8-week OTT window commitment from producers before film releases. They have called for a joint meeting with all stakeholders on May 10, 2026, in Hyderabad to discuss the way forward.
Producer members have been advised to maintain their current production and release procedures without committing to any individual OTT window agreements until a collective decision is made by all South Indian stakeholders.
