A spa employee in Thiruvalla, Kerala, was reportedly sexually assaulted by a gang after she refused to pay extortion money demanded by them. The incident took place at a spa in the Manjadi area on February 1. The gang, led by Subin Alexander, also known as ‘Marana Subin’, along with five others, allegedly assaulted the woman and other staff members when their demands were not met.
The complaint stated that the female employee was dragged into a room, threatened with a knife, and sexually assaulted. Additionally, the gang forced a customer and the establishment owner to lie on a bed while they took photographs and videos of the incident using mobile phones. The visuals were apparently recorded as a form of intimidation by the accused.
Following the assault, the gang reportedly stole Rs 25,000 from the premises and threatened dire consequences if the incident was reported to the police. Despite the incident occurring on February 1, the police only registered a case later, initially maintaining confidentiality. CCTV footage from the spa showing the gang’s intrusion and harassment of women has since surfaced, leading to public pressure on the authorities.
Three of the accused, including Subin, have been arrested and are in custody, while a search is ongoing for the remaining three who are currently absconding. The case, which involves a total of six accused individuals, has reignited concerns about unchecked extortion activities in Thiruvalla, particularly within spa establishments. The incident has sparked public outcry, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the crime and the alleged systemic failures surrounding it.
