Australia’s stand-in captain, Steve Smith, achieved his 37th Test hundred with an unbeaten score of 129 on Day 3 of the Ashes Test. Smith credited the Sydney Cricket Ground for his success, placing him as the second-highest run-scorer in Ashes history behind Don Bradman. This century marked Smith’s 13th in Ashes matches and his first in this series.

Smith expressed his affection for batting at the Sydney Cricket Ground, his home venue, emphasizing his comfort and familiarity with the pitch. Former Australian coach Simon Katich commended Smith’s performance on the challenging SCG pitch, highlighting his skillful play and strategic approach against the opposition bowlers. Smith’s remarkable record as captain includes 18 centuries, with six of them achieved against England, the most against any team.
