Surat is set to host the state-level celebrations of Gujarat Gaurav Diwas on May 1, commemorating the state’s Foundation Day with various official programs and cultural displays. The event will kick off at 5 p.m. with a police parade starting from Y-Junction near VR Mall to Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and other dignitaries are expected to participate in the festivities.
The celebrations will feature a bugle call, pipe band performance, and a horse-mounted squad escort upon the arrival of the state leadership. The program will include a march past, cultural presentations, and a motorcycle stunt display. Public viewing arrangements have been made along the parade route to accommodate a large audience.
Later in the evening, a cultural program themed “Proud Gujarat, From Heritage to Development” will take place at Dumas Seaface at 8 p.m. The event, lasting about 50 minutes, will showcase over 250 artists presenting Surat’s developmental journey through theatrical performances supported by light and sound effects. The Governor and Chief Minister will honor recipients of the Gujarat Garima Award and other distinguished individuals during the ceremony.
To mark the occasion, two publications highlighting Surat’s progress, namely ‘Vikas Vatika’ and a coffee table book, will be unveiled. The city has been illuminated with government and heritage buildings adorned with lights, creating a festive ambiance across various areas. These events are part of the state’s Foundation Day celebrations in Surat, encompassing cultural and administrative activities throughout the day.
