The survivor of the 2017 actress assault case in Kerala has approached the High Court, requesting a new investigation into the alleged leak of a memory card, a crucial piece of evidence. The case involves the abduction and sexual assault of a Malayalam film actress, with the prosecution claiming that a group of men assaulted her and recorded the incident. Actor Dileep was arrested later and accused of involvement in a conspiracy related to the crime.
The trial resulted in the conviction of those directly involved in the assault but acquitted Dileep and others due to insufficient evidence of conspiracy. The survivor’s latest petition calls for a thorough probe into the unauthorized access of the visuals from the memory card while it was in court custody. The petition emphasizes the need for a fair trial and protection of legal proceedings’ credibility.
The survivor, represented by senior Supreme Court advocate Vrinda Grover, aims for a fresh investigation supervised by the High Court. The alleged unauthorized examination of the memory card contents during court custody had sparked controversy and legal actions. The Avalkoppam Legal Support Trust is seeking public donations to support the survivor’s legal battle for justice and plans to challenge the accused’s acquittal, including actor Dileep, in the High Court.
