Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, also the President of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to make his inaugural official trip to New Delhi later this month. The visit, spanning two days, is scheduled for the third or final week of May, post the anticipated Tamil Nadu Cabinet expansion after May 18. During this visit, Vijay plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This customary engagement aims to present the TVK-led administration’s priorities and policy direction to the Union leadership.
Sources suggest that the visit will occur once the new administration completes essential governance tasks and administrative restructuring in Chennai. Vijay is expected to submit a detailed memorandum outlining Tamil Nadu’s financial needs, including demands for pending Central allocations, compensation dues, financial assistance under Centrally sponsored schemes, and increased support for ongoing welfare initiatives. Discussions between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre are likely to focus on infrastructure projects, urban expansion plans, transport connectivity, industrial investments, and welfare programs.
This visit holds political significance as it signifies Vijay’s first direct interaction with national leadership post his emergence as a significant political figure in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The meetings in New Delhi are seen as an opportunity for the new government to establish a working relationship with the Centre and seek cooperation for flagship projects and long-term development initiatives in Tamil Nadu.
