The Tamil Nadu government has initiated a significant reshuffle within the police department, transferring, promoting, and assigning 15 IPS officers across the state with immediate effect. This move, orchestrated by the Home (SC) Department, aims to bolster policing efforts and address key vacancies in various commissionerates and districts. Notable changes include D. Kannan’s transfer from Deputy Commissioner of Police, Welfare and Estate, Greater Chennai Police, to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters and Administration, Tambaram Police Commissionerate.
A. Velmurugan, previously Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Tambaram, has been reassigned as Superintendent of Police/Assistant Inspector General of Police (Modernisation) at the DGP office in Chennai. G. Stalin, IPS, who was on compulsory wait, has been designated as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Tambaram Police Commissionerate. Additionally, D. Ramesh Babu, also on compulsory wait, has been appointed as Superintendent of Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Chennai.
Further changes include V.V. Geethanjali’s appointment as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children Wing, Greater Chennai Police, and P. Sundaravadivel’s posting as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Security, Greater Chennai Police. R. Ramesh Krishnan, previously in the Anti-Terrorism Squad at Madurai, has been transferred to Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, Tiruppur City.
K. Maheswari, Superintendent of Police in the Tamil Nadu Commando Force, Chennai, has been reassigned as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Redhills, Avadi Commissionerate. In a significant move, R. Uthayakumar, IPS, formerly Deputy Commissioner of Police, Koyambedu, Greater Chennai Police, has been appointed as Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai district, replacing A.C. Karthikeyan, who is now Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar, Greater Chennai Police.
Moreover, the government has promoted five Assistant Superintendents of Police to the rank of Superintendent of Police, including Kunal Uttam Shrote, Akash Joshi, Anshul Nagar, Arpita Rajput, and Banavath Aravind. These promotions come with key responsibilities in Chennai, Tiruppur, Tirunelveli, Crime Branch-CID, and Tiruchirappalli respectively. The reshuffle, sanctioned by Additional Chief Secretary K. Manivasan, is anticipated to enhance leadership in critical policing units such as crime investigation, anti-terror operations, women and child protection, district policing, and urban law enforcement across Tamil Nadu.
