After the Rouse Avenue Court acquitted former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and 21 others in the alleged liquor policy scam case, RJD National Working President Tejashwi Yadav demanded fresh elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Yadav, speaking in Patna, stated that the court’s decision exposed what he called the central government’s misuse of constitutional institutions against opposition leaders. He emphasized the need for elections based on real issues following the dismissal of the charges related to the liquor scam.
Yadav accused the central government of utilizing investigative agencies like the CBI, Directorate of Enforcement, and Income Tax Department to target opposition figures. He highlighted the court’s criticism of the CBI’s handling of the liquor policy case, suggesting political implications. Yadav expressed concern over the impact of the false accusations on Kejriwal’s electoral prospects and called for compensation through re-election in Delhi on genuine concerns.
Tejashwi Yadav further alleged a pattern of political vendetta targeting opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav. He referenced the IRCTC land-for-jobs case, questioning the reopening of the investigation despite previous clearances by investigative agencies. Yadav criticized the BJP’s approach to politics, citing the repeated filing of cases as a tactic. The central government and BJP have yet to respond to Yadav’s statements, which are expected to fuel discussions on the use of investigative bodies and political accountability, potentially influencing the upcoming Assembly elections.
