The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has set a goal to elevate one crore women to millionaire status by 2034. To empower women, the government announced various initiatives, including flagging off 553 buses owned by women’s self-help groups on June 5. Additionally, the limit for bank-linkage loans for these groups is being raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Chief Minister Reddy virtually inaugurated 8,000 Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans (Women’s Empowerment Centres) across the state, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing women’s power. The government has already facilitated the purchase of 1,000 buses through women’s self-help groups to lease them to the RTC, aiming to transform women into bus owners. Moreover, measures have been taken to establish rice mills, warehouses, and logistics parks at the block level, encouraging women’s groups to engage in larger businesses.
The government is also planning to establish “Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars” by women’s self-help groups, offering quality goods to the public and providing a market for farmers’ produce. Furthermore, initiatives are underway to set up 1,000 megawatts of solar energy plants through women’s self-help groups and involve women’s groups in the petrol pump business sector. The government’s focus is on empowering women economically and ensuring their active participation in various sectors.
