Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma encouraged citizens to actively and responsibly exercise their voting rights, emphasizing that democratic institutions thrive when voters engage with awareness and integrity. The Governor, speaking at the state-level celebrations of the 16th National Voters’ Day, highlighted the theme “My India, My Vote” as a reminder of citizens’ pivotal role in Indian democracy. National Voters’ Day, observed annually on January 25, commemorates the establishment of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Referring to Article 324 of the Constitution, Governor Varma underscored the significance of the ECI’s independence and impartiality in ensuring fair elections in a diverse nation. He stressed the importance of social democracy and ethical voter participation, quoting B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. The Governor commended Telangana’s election administration for its inclusive and transparent initiatives, such as modern technology usage, home voting options, and minimum facilities at polling stations.
Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, C. Sudharsan Reddy, provided insights on voter enrolment and electoral readiness in the state. Telangana boasts 3.39 crore electors spread across 119 Assembly constituencies in 33 districts, supported by 35,895 polling stations. The electorate comprises 1.68 crore male, 1.70 crore female, and 2,890 transgender voters, with a net increase of approximately 3.93 lakh electors since National Voters’ Day 2025.
