A crowd gathered outside the JJ Nagar Police Station demanding swift action against those responsible for the alleged stone-pelting. The police stated that the incident occurred near the Om Shakti temple at V.S. Garden within the JJ Nagar police station limits, resulting in injuries to a child who is an Om Shakti devotee.
During the ongoing Om Shakti festival, devotees claimed that stones were hurled from a neighboring community area while the deity’s chariot procession was taking place. This incident during a Hindu religious festival sparked outrage among Hindu groups, prompting a significant gathering in front of the JJ Nagar Police Station.
Bengaluru West Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Yathish assured that the situation is presently under control, with police presence in the area as a precautionary measure. He mentioned that investigations are ongoing to verify the allegations, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
Protestors alleged that the perpetrators belonged to another community, although the police emphasized that these claims are yet to be substantiated. Authorities reiterated the need for a thorough investigation before any conclusions are drawn. The protestors expressed concerns about facing similar challenges daily, demanding protective measures such as the construction of a wall in the area to prevent future targeting incidents.
They highlighted the difficulties faced by women and children in freely moving around the area, citing instances of harassment and intimidation. The protestors called for government protection against such actions and emphasized the need for a safe environment. Police officials advised the gathered individuals to file formal complaints to aid in case registration and investigative processes.
