After the recent theft at the Thave temple in Gopalganj district, burglars have struck an ancient Ram-Janaki-Shiv temple near the Mashrak police station in Saran district. The incident occurred on Sunday night, where thieves broke the temple gate lock and stole Ashtadhatu idols of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana. Additionally, the criminals took Daan Peti and the DVR of the CCTV surveillance system to remove evidence.
The theft was discovered on Monday morning by the temple priest when he found the idols missing while cleaning the premises. The stolen idols, estimated to be over 100 years old and made of Ashtadhatu, are valued at several crores of rupees. Concerns about security and law enforcement vigilance have been raised due to the temple’s proximity to the police station.
Police teams responded promptly to the incident, deploying a dog squad and initiating investigations. They are reviewing nearby CCTV footage and questioning local residents to identify the culprits. The theft has sparked anger and worry among devotees and locals, who are demanding swift action and increased security at religious sites.
Earlier in December, unknown thieves targeted the Thave Durga Temple, a revered religious site in the region, in a large-scale robbery. The theft involved stealing the gold and silver crown, necklace, umbrella, and other valuable ornaments from the idol of Goddess Durga. The culprits also broke open a locker within the temple premises during the robbery.
