Three convicted prisoners managed to escape from the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, leading to a significant manhunt and raising concerns about the prison’s security. Jail Superintendent Chandrashekhar Suman confirmed the escape, noting that the escaped prisoners are all from Dhanbad district. Detailed profiles of the fugitives are being prepared and shared with law enforcement agencies.
The escape was discovered during a routine headcount when it was found that three inmates were missing. Despite an extensive search within the jail premises, the prisoners could not be located, prompting authorities to inform the district police and heighten security measures. The jail perimeter and surrounding areas have been sealed off, and a search operation is underway to locate the escaped prisoners.
The high-security prison, known for its stringent security measures including CCTV surveillance and armed guards, houses dangerous criminals and high-profile undertrial prisoners. Despite recent security enhancements and the suspension of 12 security personnel over security lapses, the escape has raised doubts about the effectiveness of the prison’s security protocols.
