Three individuals lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries during a Muharram procession in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. The tragic incident occurred in Hatnara village when a Tazia, part of the procession, accidentally touched a high-tension power line. Approximately 200 people were involved in the procession when the structure made contact with the live wire, causing electric shocks and burn injuries.
Police and administrative officials promptly responded to the scene after being alerted about the mishap. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Pandro mentioned that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. The ASP emphasized the need to examine whether there was any negligence regarding the height of the power line or safety measures in place.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Rashid Khan, Saddu Hussain, and Arbaz Khan. One of the deceased’s families took the body away before hospital formalities could be completed. Authorities are currently verifying all information related to the casualties. The injured victims have been admitted to Ratlam Medical College and nearby hospitals, with five individuals reported to be in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the overhead power line was hanging at a low height and claimed the absence of electricity department personnel at the accident site. A video circulating on social media captured the chaotic aftermath of the electrocution as bystanders rushed to aid the injured and transport them to medical facilities. Police stated that the exact cause of the accident will be determined upon the conclusion of the investigation, with subsequent actions to be taken based on the findings.
