A court in Coimbatore has handed down life imprisonment to three men for the gang rape of a 20-year-old college student near the Coimbatore International Airport in November 2025. The convicted individuals, identified as T. Karuppasamy alias Satheesh (30), T. Kaleeswaran alias Karthik (21), and M. Guna alias Thavasi (20), were found guilty under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) by Mahila Court (in-charge) Judge V. Sundararaj.

Under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to gang rape, the court sentenced all three to life imprisonment. Additionally, the trio was convicted under seven other sections of the BNS related to assault, criminal intimidation, and other offenses. The incident took place on the night of November 2 and 3, 2025, when the survivor and her boyfriend were attacked by the accused near the airport.

The survivor, a college student, was sitting in a car with her boyfriend when the accused assaulted the young man and then took the woman to a secluded area where they committed the crime. The accused were promptly arrested after the survivor’s boyfriend reported the incident to the Peelamedu police station. The court’s decision to award compensation to the victims has been welcomed, with the survivor set to receive Rs 7 lakh and her boyfriend Rs 2 lakh.
