In a tragic incident, Sumit Tigga, a 25-year-old general secretary of the Tribal Congress’s Karra block unit, was fatally shot by unknown attackers in Guyu village, Khunti district, Jharkhand. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, has caused fear and outrage among the local community.
Sumit Tigga, the son of Temba Tigga from Guyu village, was a well-known and active young tribal leader. He was involved in organizational activities of the Tribal Congress and various social projects, earning respect in his village and nearby areas.
Reports suggest that Sumit was at home on Sunday evening when two acquaintances called him out around 6:30 p.m. He later joined friends near a bonfire in the village. Around 8 p.m., an unidentified assailant approached from behind and shot him, leading to his immediate collapse in a pool of blood.
Following the shooting, the attacker fled the scene. Villagers, upon hearing the gunshot, rushed to the spot and informed Sumit’s family. He was rushed to a hospital in Ranchi but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Upon receiving the news, Karra police reached the village, examined the crime scene, and launched an investigation. Several individuals present during the incident were interrogated. The body was taken into police custody and sent to RIMS, Ranchi, for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities mentioned that the motive behind the murder is yet to be determined, with all potential angles, including personal disputes and political conflicts, under scrutiny.
A senior police official stated, “We are investigating the case comprehensively and have formed teams to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators.”
Local Congress leaders, tribal activists, and residents strongly denounced the killing, urging the prompt arrest of those responsible. They emphasized that such acts jeopardize peace and security in the tribal-dominated region.
Police have assured the community that the case will be resolved soon, and the guilty parties will face justice.
