Eight Trinamool Congress MPs protested outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office in Delhi. The MPs displayed placards rejecting what they called “Modi-Shah’s dirty politics” and accused the Centre of targeting the opposition through central agencies. The demonstration, which included MPs like Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra, highlighted concerns about alleged misuse of investigative agencies by the BJP-led Centre.
The protest was held prior to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Kolkata against Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at the office of political consultancy firm I-PAC. During the protest, Trinamool Congress MPs raised slogans condemning what they termed as the Modi government’s “dirty politics.” Visuals from the site captured MPs holding placards criticizing the alleged harassment of opposition parties.
Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra were briefly detained by police during the protest outside the Home Minister’s office. The detention occurred as security personnel sought to prevent the protesters from obstructing access to the premises. Derek O’Brien questioned the detention, highlighting concerns over the treatment of MPs by the Delhi Police under Amit Shah’s leadership.
The protest came in response to Enforcement Directorate raids at the Kolkata office of I-PAC and the residence of its chief and co-founder, Pratik Jain. CM Mamata Banerjee visited the search locations, accusing the central agency of attempting to seize sensitive documents related to the Trinamool Congress. The Trinamool Congress, following Mamata Banerjee’s call, organized protest rallies across the state to denounce the ED raids.
