Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced plans to transition all eight Zila Sabhadhipatis’ offices to solar power by the end of the month. This decision follows the 29th Governing Body Meeting of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency. The Minister highlighted the state’s focus on renewable energy and the success of solar initiatives, including recognition from Prime Minister Modi.
Nath emphasized the importance of renewable energy projects, especially in tribal-inhabited areas like the Reang community. Tripura leads in the Prime Minister Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan scheme, supporting farmers with solar power. The state has already installed 5,000 solar pumps out of the targeted 10,000, benefiting over 4,000 kan of agricultural land.
Under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region, Tripura is extending electricity through solar microgrids to areas lacking conventional power supply. The state is also ensuring access to drinking water in remote regions. Solar panel installations have been completed in all District Magistrates’ offices, with plans to replicate this in Zila Sabhadhipatis’ offices for a greener energy approach.
