Days after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra resigned due to donation theft by the counting staff, their resignations were accepted during the Trust’s meeting on Monday.
Krishna Mohan has been named the acting General Secretary to oversee operations until a permanent appointment is made. Trust Treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri confirmed the removal of Rai and Mishra, with Mohan taking over as the interim General Secretary.
Expressing distress over the theft of donations, Giri emphasized the disappointment felt by the Trust and Lord Ram’s devotees. He highlighted the sacrifices made by millions for the temple’s construction, making such incidents particularly painful.
Acknowledging Rai’s contributions to the Trust, Giri mentioned that Rai chose to step down until the accused in the theft case are apprehended and penalized. The Trust’s constitution, as explained by senior trustee K. Parasaran, necessitates immediate acceptance of a resignation upon submission.
Giri addressed rumors circulating on missing religious artifacts from the temple, clarifying that these claims are unfounded. He noted that the Trust has a registered record of around 2,800 religious and historical artifacts, including the Ramayan and sacred footwear.
To prevent future incidents, the Trust has formed a committee. A special meeting was held ahead of schedule, with another meeting scheduled for July 22 to review the SIT findings expected by then.
