The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar arrested two individuals for reportedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman at a beauty parlour in Jagamara, Odisha. The accused, identified as Rabindra Mohanty, the parlour owner, and Santosh Kumar Barik, an employee, were apprehended following the victim’s complaint.
The victim, who had received professional training in beauty and cosmetology, was searching for employment and had expressed interest in working at a beauty parlour in Bhubaneswar. She visited the unisex beauty parlour in Jagamara after learning about a job opening through an acquaintance.
Allegedly, the parlour owner assured her of a well-paying job, leading her to visit the parlour where she claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Mohanty and Barik. The victim promptly reported the incident to the Khandagiri police station, resulting in the registration of a case under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Following the complaint, the police initiated an investigation, examining CCTV footage and gathering evidence from the parlour. Subsequently, the accused duo was arrested, and the parlour was sealed as part of the ongoing probe. The suspects were presented before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody after rejecting their bail pleas.
