In Manipur’s Bishnupur district, a bomb attack by suspected Kuki militants resulted in the tragic deaths of two children and left their mother injured. The incident occurred in Moirang Tronglaobi village around 1 a.m., where a powerful bomb was detonated, claiming the lives of a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old girl.
The children’s mother, who was also present during the explosion, sustained injuries. The bomb struck while the family was asleep, causing significant damage to parts of their house. Moirang Tronglaobi, situated near the mountainous Churachandpur district, has been a hotspot for ethnic violence, with repeated gunfire incidents in recent years.
Residents reported that bombs launched from surrounding hill slopes have landed in the village, indicating firing positions possibly located over three kilometers away. In response to the attack, enraged locals blocked roads and set fire to three trucks carrying goods towards Churachandpur district, heightening tensions in the area.
The situation in Bishnupur and neighboring valley districts remains tense, prompting a swift deployment of security forces led by senior police officials. Combing operations have been initiated to apprehend those responsible for the deadly assault. Meanwhile, local BJP MLA Shanti Singh condemned the attack, labeling the perpetrators as “Kuki narco-terrorists” and denouncing such acts of terrorism in society.
