Two farmers tragically lost their lives in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, after inhaling toxic gas while trying to fix a motor pump inside a well. The incident took place in Pipertola village under Kirnapur police station limits. Mahesh Chaudhary, aged 45, entered the well to repair the pump but collapsed due to lack of oxygen and toxic fumes.
Yuvraj Bisen, aged 55, seeing Chaudhary in distress, bravely went down to rescue him but also succumbed to the poisonous gas. Despite efforts, both men passed away inside the well before help could reach them. The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) team from Balaghat was called in to assist in the recovery operation.
SDERF jawan Karansingh Valke, equipped with safety gear, retrieved the bodies after a five-hour operation. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination at the district hospital. This tragic incident marks the third such occurrence in Balaghat within a short span, prompting the district administration to enhance awareness campaigns to prevent future accidents.
