Two women lost their lives, and 30 others sustained injuries in a tragic incident when a passenger bus overturned and plunged into a ditch in the Arambagh area of West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The bus, carrying around 50 passengers, was en route from Burdwan town to Tarakeshwar when the driver lost control, leading to the accident.
Local residents, upon hearing the commotion, rushed to the scene to initiate rescue efforts before the police and medical assistance arrived. The deceased victims, identified as Lakshmi Murmu, 65, and Sharmila Soren, 35, were on their way to the Tarakeshwar temple from East Burdwan district. The injured have been admitted to Arambagh Medical College and Hospital, with some in critical condition.
Blame has been placed on the poor road conditions in the area for the tragic event. Allegations of negligence in road maintenance have surfaced, with locals expressing frustration over delayed ambulance services. However, the situation was swiftly brought under control by the local police.
In a separate recent incident, four individuals were killed, and 10 others were seriously injured when a North Bengal State Transport Corporation bus collided with a parked trailer in the Maynaguri area of Jalpaiguri district along National Highway 27.
