Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russia should focus on diplomatic solutions rather than resorting to missile attacks, power outages, or threats to Ukraine’s nuclear plants. Zelensky highlighted that Russia’s actions indicate a lack of interest in diplomacy, with reconnaissance missions targeting potential strike locations.
He revealed that Russia’s primary focus has been on disrupting Ukraine’s energy sector, leading to extensive repair efforts involving thousands of workers across the country. Zelensky mentioned the challenges faced in providing heating to affected areas, particularly in Kyiv and northern regions, where ongoing repairs are hampered by shelling and strikes.
Zelensky also mentioned ongoing negotiations with the United States to end the conflict, with the Ukrainian delegation, including key officials, engaging in discussions with American representatives. The talks have centered on developing essential documents to bring an end to the war and ensuring American awareness of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council head Rustem Umerov reported on productive meetings with US officials, focusing on economic development, security guarantees for Ukraine, and strategies for implementation and enforcement. The discussions also addressed recent Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities, with plans for continued collaboration during upcoming consultations in Davos.
