Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. Kumaraswamy criticized the process, alleging lack of credibility and called for its cancellation. He highlighted serious lapses in the voter revision exercise and demanded a transparent process.
Kumaraswamy revealed that the matter had been escalated to central election authorities for further action. He announced plans to meet the Election Commission in Delhi to present details and request a halt to the current process. The Union Minister also questioned the silence of Karnataka government officials and political leaders on the alleged irregularities in the SIR process.
He emphasized the importance of protecting the livelihoods of roadside vendors during eviction drives in compliance with court orders. Kumaraswamy urged the Karnataka government to provide alternative arrangements for vendors affected by the clearance drives. He stressed the need for considering the impact on street vendors dependent on daily business activities.
