Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, took part in Sikkim’s 51st Statehood Day celebrations. He attended the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies for 21 development projects totaling Rs 223 crore. The event saw the presence of Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Addressing the audience in Nepali, Scindia praised Sikkim’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted Sikkim’s achievements in sustainable growth, organic agriculture, tourism-led development, and ecological stewardship. Scindia described Sikkim as a prime example of balanced development where advancement aligns with nature, culture, and identity.
During the celebrations, projects under the NESIDS-Roads initiative worth over Rs 45 crore were inaugurated. These projects included bridge connectivity works linking NH-10 to IBP Road, developments over the Rongrong river in Pakyong district, and across Rangpo Khola in Namchi district. Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for the geometric improvement and carpeting of the 15.8-km Rimbi Khola-Yuksam road in Gyalshing district, aimed at enhancing regional and tourism connectivity.
