Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu clarified that his concerns about the film ‘Satluj’ were not aimed at any religion but against terrorism and violence. He emphasized that Sikhism promotes peace, courage, sacrifice, and service to humanity. Bittu praised the significant contributions of Sikhs across various sectors like judiciary, armed forces, business, sports, literature, and science.
Bittu highlighted the achievements of prominent Sikh figures who have brought global recognition to the community, reflecting the core values of Sikhism. He condemned the violence during the Punjab militancy era, stressing that terrorism, which claimed numerous innocent lives, should not be associated with Sikhism. Bittu also shared images of inspiring Sikhs who serve as role models.
Supporting the call for an independent inquiry into the killings of civilians, bus passengers, and police personnel, Bittu advocated for a transparent investigation process. He urged for a fair portrayal of historical events in films, expressing reservations about certain aspects of ‘Satluj’, including the depiction of historical personalities and events. Bittu recounted the personal tragedies his family faced due to violence in the past.
Bittu urged for prayers for all victims of Punjab’s violent past, emphasizing the need to remember every life lost. He stressed the importance of examining historical events objectively, resolving disputes through lawful processes, and fostering peace, communal harmony, and rejecting terrorism for Punjab’s future.
