A section of the upper structure at the Central Bus Station in Vadodara collapsed, resulting in the death of one person and a temporary disruption of bus services. The incident, which occurred at the terminal constructed for Rs 114 crore, caused panic among passengers and staff present. Police clarified that only one fatality, identified as Narasinhbhai Dave, occurred between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., with no other injuries reported.
Following the collapse, authorities initiated rescue and clearance operations at the site. Fire brigade personnel and police teams were deployed to manage the situation, cordoning off the affected area and evacuating passengers from nearby sections as a safety measure. Bus operations were partially affected as movement within the premises was restricted for safety reasons.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Jagdish Chavda mentioned that a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and other agencies are investigating the incident. The area has been sanitized, and debris clearance will be conducted with the assistance of relevant authorities once sampling is completed. Technical experts are examining the site to determine the cause of the structural failure, with the bus station inaugurated in February 2014 by the then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
State Congress spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi expressed concerns over the incident, citing corruption issues in Gujarat. He urged for a thorough investigation into the collapse, emphasizing the need to address corruption that impacts people’s lives. The incident has drawn political reactions, with Doshi highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in such cases.
