Organizers of the US 250th Independence Day celebrations have adjusted the schedule for the “Salute to America” events in Washington due to a heat advisory. Despite this, President Donald Trump’s speech and the evening fireworks display will proceed as planned. The changes impact the Great American State Fair, the FIFA Fan Zone, and public access to the Washington Monument grounds.
“The safety and well-being of every guest remains our top priority as we celebrate this historic 250th Independence Day,” stated a joint announcement by various organizations including Freedom 250, the United States Park Police, and the National Park Service. Measures have been taken to minimize visitors’ exposure to extreme temperatures by providing additional cooling resources and medical support.
Under the revised schedule, the Great American State Fair and the FIFA Fan Zone will open at noon and continue until the end of the Salute to America program. Visitors will have access to water distribution stations, cooling tents, air-conditioned buses, and pavilion structures. Aircraft flyovers and military demonstrations over the National Mall are set to start at 1:15 p.m.
The Washington Monument grounds will open at 5 p.m., two hours before the main program, to reduce heat exposure. The live Salute to America program will kick off at 7 p.m., with Trump’s speech scheduled for 9:45 p.m. The day will culminate with a grand fireworks display starting at 10:30 p.m., featuring various aerial demonstrations by military aircraft.
Officials advise attendees to stay hydrated, take breaks in shaded areas, and wear appropriate clothing. Special attention is urged for vulnerable groups like children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and those with medical conditions. Visitors are encouraged to arrive no more than an hour before the opening time and bring refillable water bottles.
Additional safety measures, including cooling stations, medical personnel, and express entry lanes, have been implemented to enhance visitor safety and comfort. The revised schedule comes after extreme heat disrupted events in Washington and the eastern US. The celebrations mark America’s 250th Independence Day, commemorating the Declaration of Independence adopted on July 4, 1776.
