India’s significant role in the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape has been underscored by Michael Kratsios, the top science adviser to US President Donald Trump. Kratsios praised India as a “technology powerhouse” with a strong engineering base and a thriving innovation ecosystem. He emphasized the country’s talent pool and its ability to develop cutting-edge products and applications.
Kratsios, who recently attended the India AI Impact Summit, positioned India as a crucial part of the US strategy to enhance “real AI sovereignty” among partner nations. He highlighted the increasing gap in AI adoption between developed and developing countries, stressing the importance of prioritizing AI integration in sectors like healthcare, education, energy, agriculture, and government services to avoid falling behind.
As part of the American AI Exports Program, the White House aims to provide trusted technology, financial support, and deployment assistance to countries seeking to advance their AI capabilities. Kratsios defined “real AI sovereignty” as leveraging top-tier technology for national development while navigating global changes.
The focus on establishing unified standards for AI agents was also mentioned, with an initiative led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to enhance secure and efficient communication among AI systems. Kratsios acknowledged the financial challenges faced by emerging economies in building the AI infrastructure, highlighting the need for investments in data centers, semiconductors, and power generation.
To address these challenges, the US is mobilizing support through agencies like the US International Development Finance Corporation and the Export-Import Bank, while also introducing the US Tech Corps. This initiative aims to deploy technology experts to implement AI solutions globally. Kratsios commended India’s collaboration with the US in technology sharing and integration within the American AI ecosystem.
