The United States has affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies amidst rising tensions with Iran. US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, in an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, stated that American forces were actively diminishing Iran’s naval capabilities and stood ready to take further measures to protect vital shipping routes. Hegseth emphasized the ongoing efforts to prevent disruptions and threats to maritime security, with a focus on maintaining stability in the region.

Hegseth underscored the strategic nature of Washington’s military operations, aiming to diminish Iran’s capacity to pose threats to US forces, regional allies, and international trade. He highlighted the administration’s determination to achieve specific campaign objectives, working in collaboration with allies and energy authorities to mitigate any adverse impacts on global markets. The US administration is resolute in its pursuit of ensuring that Iran is unable to sustain military activities, signaling a commitment to a robust and sustained approach.

The interview also addressed the evolving geopolitical landscape, including concerns about potential intelligence-sharing between Russia and Iran regarding US military movements. Hegseth assured that American commanders were closely monitoring these developments and incorporating them into operational planning, leveraging the nation’s superior intelligence capabilities. He dismissed suggestions of increased risks to US forces, emphasizing the proactive stance taken by the US in the conflict.

Hegseth declined to specify the boundaries of US military actions, emphasizing the flexibility required to adapt to changing circumstances. He reiterated the US’s readiness to escalate operations as necessary for successful outcomes, without divulging operational constraints. While acknowledging the possibility of casualties, Hegseth affirmed the US’s unwavering commitment to its objectives, with a solemn acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by American troops in service to their country.
