Vietnamese President To Lam is set to visit India on Tuesday for a State visit following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To Lam, who is also the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will be in India until May 7, marking his first visit to the country since assuming the presidency earlier this month.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation including several Ministers and senior officials of the Government of Vietnam, President To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 6. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage in comprehensive discussions with President To Lam covering various aspects of bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual concern.
During the visit, President To Lam will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu, with other leaders expected to call on him. The Vietnamese President’s itinerary includes visits to Bodh Gaya and Mumbai, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), aiming to enhance the existing robust bilateral relations and explore new avenues for collaboration between India and Vietnam.
Prime Minister Modi had previously congratulated President To Lam on his election and expressed eagerness to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. The MEA highlighted the deep-rooted historical and civilizational ties between India and Vietnam, emphasizing the significance of President To Lam’s visit coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement initiated during PM Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016.
