Maharashtra witnessed a wave of unrest on the final day for filing nominations for municipal corporation elections. Tensions flared in cities like Nashik, Nagpur, and Mumbai over ticket distribution issues. In Nashik, BJP aspirants chased vehicles carrying nomination forms, leading to dramatic scenes on the Nashik-Mumbai highway.
The turmoil escalated in Nashik’s ward number 26 with a heated argument between a BJP office-bearer and an MLA over nomination form issuance. The incident, captured on video, went viral, reflecting the growing dissent over candidate selection. In Nagpur, a Shiv Sena worker, despite personal tragedy, managed to file his nomination just before the deadline after party leaders handed him the form at his mother’s funeral.
In Mumbai, protests erupted as aspirants from various parties expressed dissatisfaction over ticket allocation. Shiv Sena workers protested outside Matoshree, while BJP workers in Nagpur demonstrated outside Nitin Gadkari’s residence. In Chembur, BJP aspirants filed nominations as independents after the party’s ticket allocation decision. Internal strife was also seen in NCP-led Jalgaon, with a city president resigning over seat allocation disagreements.
In Sambhajinagar, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, BJP aspirants protested against ticket denials, accusing party leaders of neglecting loyalists. The denial of a ticket reportedly triggered a medical emergency for a BJP aspirant’s mother in Mira-Bhayandar. Both ruling and opposition parties worked to pacify disgruntled members and manage internal dissent.
