West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the state exchequer for the families of the nine individuals who lost their lives in the Taratala warehouse roof collapse incident. He also pledged Rs 1,00,000 for the injured individuals during the mishap.
In response to the tragedy, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has offered an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2,00,000 from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the deceased victims’ next of kin. Additionally, Rs 50,000 compensation has been announced for each injured person in the accident.
Chief Minister Adhikari provided a detailed account of the rescue efforts initiated promptly after the warehouse roof collapse. The rescue operations involved Kolkata Police, state fire services, National Disaster Response Force, and the Indian Army, with continuous efforts being made to save those trapped under the debris.
During a session in the Assembly, CM Adhikari confirmed the unfortunate demise of nine individuals in the incident and informed about the ongoing treatment of the injured. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of various government officials and ministers who actively participated in the rescue operations.
