The 26-year-old youth, Indrajit Tanti, who was lynched by a mob in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district, was found innocent, according to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Tanti was attacked on July 5 by a mob that suspected his involvement in the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl, sparking tension in the area.
During his visit to Baruipur, the Chief Minister met with senior police officials and spoke separately with the families of both the victim and the lynched youth. Adhikari stated that after discussions with the lynched youth’s family and the Special Investigation Team’s findings, it was clear that the youth was innocent. He assured that justice would be served in both cases.
Nearly 200 individuals have been identified for their involvement in violent acts and vandalism, including damaging public property and rail tracks, related to the recovery of the girl’s body. Adhikari emphasized that those responsible for such actions would face consequences and that political instigators behind the violence would not be spared.
A new police outpost will be established near the victim’s residence in Suryapur, Baruipur, to enhance security measures. Adhikari pledged to ensure accountability and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
