Nine Western countries, including the UK, Canada, and France, expressed concern over the escalating situation in Israel’s West Bank. They highlighted a rise in settler violence and criticized Israeli government policies for hindering stability and the potential for a two-State solution. The joint statement emphasized the illegality of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, particularly condemning the E1 settlement development that would divide the region and violate international law.
The countries urged businesses to refrain from participating in construction projects in E1 or other settlements, warning of legal and reputational consequences. They called on the Israeli government to halt settlement expansion, address settler violence, and investigate allegations against Israeli forces. Additionally, the statement emphasized the importance of respecting the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s Holy Sites and lifting financial restrictions on the Palestinian Authority and economy.
In a unified stance against annexation and forced displacement of Palestinians, the countries reiterated their commitment to a peaceful resolution through a negotiated two-State solution. They reaffirmed support for relevant UN Security Council resolutions, advocating for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully within secure and recognized borders.
