Papad, also known as papadam, is a thin, crispy Indian wafer made from lentil, rice, or chickpea flour. While it’s commonly served as a side dish with meals, it can also be transformed into a variety of quick and delicious snacks. Whether you’re looking for a light tea-time snack or a quick party appetizer, papad can be your go-to ingredient. Here are some easy and creative snack options using papad:

1. Masala Papad

This is one of the easiest and most loved papad-based snacks.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large papad (fried or roasted)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 small tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Roast or fry the papad until crisp.
  2. Spread the chopped onions, tomatoes, and green chilies evenly over it.
  3. Sprinkle salt, chaat masala, and red chili powder on top.
  4. Drizzle some lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.
  5. Serve immediately for the perfect crispy snack!

2. Papad Chaat

A tangy and crunchy twist on street-style chaat.

Ingredients:

  • 2 papads (roasted or fried)
  • ½ cup boiled potatoes (diced)
  • ½ cup chickpeas (boiled)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1 small tomato (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp tamarind chutney
  • 1 tbsp green chutney
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ cup sev (for garnish)
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)

Instructions:

  1. Break the roasted or fried papads into large pieces and arrange them on a plate.
  2. Add boiled potatoes, chickpeas, onions, and tomatoes.
  3. Drizzle tamarind and green chutney on top.
  4. Sprinkle chaat masala, cumin powder, and sev.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.

3. Papad Rolls

A crispy roll with a delicious filling inside.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large papads
  • ½ cup paneer (grated)
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise or hung curd
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Mix paneer, green chili, chaat masala, garam masala, coriander leaves, and mayonnaise/hung curd to make the filling.
  2. Slightly moisten the papad with water to make it flexible.
  3. Place the filling on one side and roll the papad tightly.
  4. Seal the edges with a little water.
  5. Deep fry or shallow fry until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve hot with mint chutney.

4. Cheese Papad Pizza

A fusion snack perfect for cheese lovers.

Ingredients:

  • 2 papads
  • ½ cup grated cheese (mozzarella or processed)
  • 1 tbsp pizza sauce
  • ½ small onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ small capsicum (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp chili flakes

Instructions:

  1. Roast the papad on a tawa until crisp.
  2. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on the roasted papad.
  3. Sprinkle chopped onions, capsicum, and grated cheese.
  4. Microwave for 30 seconds or heat in a pan until the cheese melts.
  5. Garnish with oregano and chili flakes. Serve immediately!

5. Papad Tacos

Give your snacks a Mexican-Indian twist!

Ingredients:

  • 2 large papads
  • ½ cup cooked kidney beans (rajma) or chickpeas
  • ½ cup chopped lettuce
  • ½ small onion (chopped)
  • ½ small tomato (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp sour cream or yogurt
  • ½ tsp taco seasoning or chaat masala

Instructions:

  1. Roast the papads and fold them in half while still hot to form a taco shell shape.
  2. Fill them with kidney beans or chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce.
  3. Drizzle with sour cream or yogurt.
  4. Sprinkle taco seasoning or chaat masala on top.
  5. Serve immediately for a crunchy and flavorful bite.

Papad is a versatile ingredient that can be transformed into quick and tasty snacks within minutes. Whether you prefer a spicy, tangy, or cheesy twist, these easy recipes can be made with minimal effort. Try them out and impress your family and guests with creative papad snacks!
