Atul Purohit is a name synonymous with Garba and Gujarati folk traditions. Widely revered as one of India’s most beloved Garba vocalists, he has spent decades enchanting audiences with his spiritual voice, classical mastery, and unshakable connection to cultural roots. His performances are the heartbeats of Navratri celebrations worldwide.

Early Life & Musical Spark

Born in the quaint village of Dholar, Gujarat, Atul Purohit’s love for music bloomed early. At the age of 10, he received his first harmonium, sparking a lifelong journey of self-taught music. Later, he moved to Vadodara to pursue formal training in dramatics at a music college and began performing at local events — often for free — simply driven by passion.

Musical Journey & Rise to Fame

Atul Purohit’s style beautifully merges folk traditions with the depth of Hindustani classical and spiritual genres. In 1983, he co-founded the Rishabh Group, and their album “Tara Vina Shyam” became a timeless Garba anthem, catapulting him into the limelight.

In 1992, he established the Rutambara Group, a music ensemble that became a cornerstone of Navratri celebrations across Gujarat and beyond.

The Rutambara Legacy & Global Navratri Fame

Atul Purohit and the Rutambara Group are the headline performers at United Way of Baroda’s Navratri festival, known as one of the world’s largest Garba gatherings. With consistent yearly performances for over 18 years, their shows attract record-breaking crowds. Their grandeur has even prompted applications to the Guinness World Records for the highest Garba attendance.

Devotional Works & Spiritual Influence

Beyond the dance beats, Atul Purohit’s voice also breathes life into devotional compositions like Sunderkand and various bhajans. His music offers spiritual solace and has become a regular feature in homes and temples, bridging tradition with divine expression.

Atul Purohit’s discography reflects a deep reverence for tradition and melody. His songs are a blend of:
