As of February 28, a total of 11.69 crore hospital admissions have been approved under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, with 6.74 crore admissions in private hospitals, according to Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav. Strict guidelines are in place to ensure hospitals treat beneficiaries without refusal, and patients can report denials or irregularities through the Centralised Grievance Redressal Management System or a toll-free helpline. Grievances under the scheme are monitored through a three-tier redressal mechanism at the District, State, and National levels.
The government has noted a significant increase in the number of hospitals empanelled under the scheme, rising from 6,917 in 2018-19 to 36,229 hospitals as of February 28, 2026. This network includes 19,483 public hospitals and 16,746 private hospitals, providing extensive healthcare coverage nationwide. Hospital empanelment is an ongoing process managed by states and Union Territories based on National Health Authority guidelines.
Claims settlement remains timely and consistent, with State Health Agencies settling claims within 15 days for in-state hospital treatments and 30 days for cases involving out-of-state treatment under portability.
