A tragic incident occurred when a fire broke out in two air-conditioned coaches of the Tata Nagar–Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district. The 70-year-old victim, Chandrasekhar Sundar, lost his life in the blaze while other passengers managed to escape safely. The fire, which started after the train crossed Duvvada, quickly engulfed the B1 and M2 coaches.
Railway authorities reported that the loco pilots first noticed the fire near Yelamanchili and promptly halted the train. Despite efforts to control the blaze, the fire spread rapidly, leading to the complete destruction of the two affected coaches. Passengers, amidst panic and confusion, evacuated the train as thick smoke filled the compartments.
Although all passengers were safely evacuated, the unfortunate loss of Chandrasekhar Sundar was confirmed. The train, delayed by the incident, eventually reached Anakapalli after a significant delay. Firefighting teams from nearby areas worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames, but the belongings of passengers in the affected coaches were destroyed. Senior railway officials arrived to assess the situation and provide necessary relief measures.
