The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has backed the Bharat Bandh scheduled by 10 central trade unions and farmer groups for Thursday. AAP urged workers, farmers, and citizens in Punjab and nationwide to participate peacefully. The party emphasized that the bandh is not linked to any specific political entity but is about upholding the dignity and rights of hardworking individuals.
The AAP criticized the BJP-led government’s policies against workers and farmers, declaring solidarity with the protest. AAP members in Punjab and other regions will actively join the shutdown alongside workers and farmers. The party highlighted that the demonstration symbolizes a broader fight for justice and rights of millions of laborers in India.
According to AAP representatives, the new labor codes imposed by the BJP-led government directly undermine workers’ rights. These codes allegedly diminish job security and legal protections, providing excessive freedom to employers in hiring and firing decisions. The party expressed concern that these policies jeopardize the interests of numerous hardworking individuals.
The support from farmer organizations for the bandh underscores the detrimental impact of BJP’s economic measures on both workers and farmers. AAP leaders emphasized their history of advocating for the rights of workers, farmers, and the public. In Punjab, the AAP government has reportedly raised minimum wages, ensured timely crop procurement, and offered free essential services, positioning itself as a party that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
The AAP strongly criticized the Central government for favoring corporate interests over workers’ rights. The party accused the government of enabling employers to dismiss workers without accountability under the new labor codes. Additionally, farmers are allegedly not receiving fair prices for their produce. This disparity has led to the joint call for a Bharat Bandh by 10 trade unions and farmer organizations.
